The Corona Virus has changed a lot of things in the world and weddings are no exception. So, it’s safe to assume that whether you’re hosting a Covid-19 Wedding or attending one, there will be new rules and etiquette to follow.

Aside from following government regulations (where applicable), the rules that you as a host put in place will largely be up to you and your venue. The only important part is communicating those rules to your guests and enforcing them.

Wondering how to navigate hosting a wedding in the COVID-19 age? Let’s look at the new etiquette standards when it comes to your big day.

First thing ~ Decide what safety procedures you will implement at your event. Will you require masks? Proof of Vaccination? A COVID-19 test before the wedding? Enforce social distancing? Nothing at all?

It’s understandable that you may feel they are unnecessary, especially if your guest list consists of only your immediate family and closest friends, but some people may find it unnerving if the event appears to be a free-for-all. At the very least, make sure to implement social distancing wherever possible, and provide hand sanitizer on site. You may also want to have a few masks on hand just in case someone didn’t bring theirs.

Once you’ve decided on what safety measures will be in place, make sure to make them clear on the invitation or a guest information card. No one wants to be surprised by a mask mandate upon arrival.

Even if there are no specific requirements, in the simplest form, it’s polite to add the line “safety measures will be in place” to the invite to soothe any of the attendees’ worries. You may also want to decide on a few additional rules, such as no invited guests plus one or that no gifts should be brought to the venue.  This could be on a separate enclosure card, maybe titled: For the Health and Safety of Our Guests.

You should expect that more people are likely to decline, perhaps due to reasons beyond their control. Similarly, some may have to cancel at the last minute. Don’t take this personally. Because of this it is wise to have a “B List” of people you’d like to invite in case your first chosen round can’t make it.

Because most places still have gathering limitations, most likely there will be quite a lot of people you won’t be able to invite. How do you approach this? Well, there are two schools of thought on this topic. Some couples have opted to live stream their ceremony and reception so that their loved ones can still attend virtually. An alternative to this is keeping a social media account regularly updated with photos and video uploads.Others, however, find this a bit tacky and rude, seeing it as showing off an event to people who were clearly not invited. In which case, couples choose to ban any and all social media posts until the day after. That way, no one will feel left out.

Since government rules can change very quickly, you should find a way to update your guests as soon as possible. A wedding website or social media page is a great way to do this. Changes may include a rescheduling or a full-on cancellation. Or, it may be the introduction of new safety measures.

If you feel that the threat of last-minute alterations is quite high, you may also choose to give a heads up on your invite by adding “rules/dates/times subject to change.”

Note that a change may also be a further limitation on gatherings, in which case you would have to uninvite someone—unfortunately. In such cases, don’t make it a public announcement. It’s better to address these kinds of matters personally or via phone. If the persons in question matter a lot to you, consider hosting a secondary event just to commemorate the occasion with them.

Your Save the Dates usually go out 6 – 12 months before your day but if it is a destination wedding more time is better.  Here are some more Save-the-Date and Wedding Invitation Tips. Send invitations 6-8 weeks beforehand, with an R.S.V.P. request 2-3 weeks prior to the event so you can get a final head count.

Make sure all pertinent information is included.  The names of the couple getting married, the date along with a note “Invitation to follow.” You don’t need to name the venue, but if you have a website, save-the-dates are a great place to share the URL.

Wedding invitations should include the full names of the couple marrying and those of the hosts (if they’re different), the place and time, and that’s it. “No children” isn’t included on the invite; it’s implied by the names on the envelope. Nor should you list registry information on the invitation—family and attendants can spread the word when asked about it, or you can provide it on your website.

“Street,” “Post Office Box,” and “Apartment” should all be written in full. The same is true for city and state names and house numbers smaller than 20. “Mr. and Mrs.” generally are abbreviated.

Your guests’ entire names should be written on the outer envelopes. Address married couples as “Mr. and Mrs.,” followed by the husband’s first and last name. It’s also fine to list both full names. When a woman keeps her maiden name, the names are written in alphabetical order: Ms. Susan Jones and Mr. John Smith. For an unmarried couple who live together, write the names on two lines. Some invitation suites have inner and outer envelopes. The inner envelope would have just the guests’ names, the outer envelope will have the guests’ names plus the address.

If the wife is a doctor, her full name comes first, as in “Doctor Aharon and Mr. Gary Lawrence.” When the husband is a doctor, the titles appear as “Doctor and Mrs.” and if both husband and wife are doctors, the envelope should say “Drs. Sharon and Gary Lawrence.” A single woman (unless she’s a doctor) should be addressed as “Ms.” If she’s under 21, use “Miss.”

Thank-you notes should be treated with a sense of urgency. Send them within two weeks of receiving the present to express your true appreciation. I hope this post helps for Save-the-Date and Wedding Invitation Tips.

What you write on your menu card is mostly dependent upon your food and wine choices. Organize the card by course: Salads or soups go first, followed by your various entrees and desserts. If you happen to have more than one entree, feel free to list the courses by number. Be sure to capitalize the beginning of each line, and do not include any punctuation except for commas. To bring a little personality to the stationery, rename your food options in your own clever way. As long as your guests can understand what the basic ingredients of the meal are, be creative. If you happen to be serving wine with each course, be sure to mark the wine pairings under the dish with which it is meant to be served. Write out under each dish “served with” followed by the type, vineyard and year of the wine.

Have your bridesmaids dress in burgundy or blush dresses and have the groomsmen wear coordinating bow ties! For flowers and centerpieces use the same wedding colors and incorporate blush and burgundy flowers with greenery and ribbon. These are all subtle ways that will tie everything together.

Finally add this fun color palette to your cake or dessert table! Whether it’s a marbled swoop of color or beautiful flowers, adding these to your wedding cake will bring the color them full circle. It makes the dessert table look like edible art!
